Solutions Engineer, Pre-Sales & Hardware Deployment

Department: Sales
Location:

Solutions Engineer (Pre-Sales & Hardware Deployment)

This role sits at the intersection of pre-sales pilot execution and post-sales hardware deployment. You'll partner closely with Sales, Customer Success, and Engineering teams to scope, install, and stabilize hardware in customer environments.

As a hands-on technical expert, you'll ensure pilot sites come online quickly, devices are properly connected, and data is reliable from day one. You'll also build the deployment playbooks and documentation that make hardware installation repeatable and scalable — whether led by you, a partner, or the customer themselves. You'll support expansion efforts by helping define and deliver scalable hardware solutions.

This role is centered around our MES solution, Amper.

Location: Remote, USA

Travel: Up to 50%

What You’ll Do:

Pre-Sales & Expansion Support

  • Partner with Account Executives to scope technical requirements during pre-sales

  • Provide prescriptive, confident technical guidance to prospects — including reading and interpreting electrical schematics and specifying hardware configurations

  • Assist Account Executives in identifying and delivering hardware needs for expansions

Pilot Deployment & Hardware Implementation

  • Lead on-site and remote IoT hardware deployments for pilot customers

  • Install, configure, and troubleshoot industrial sensors and connectivity systems alongside pilot customers

  • Ensure industrial sensors and hardware devices are properly integrated and streaming accurate, reliable data

  • Diagnose and resolve issues across networking, hardware, industrial controls, and system performance

Deployment Enablement & Documentation

  • Build and maintain deployment playbooks, install guides, troubleshooting decision trees, and hardware reference documentation

  • Translate hands-on field experience into scalable resources that enable partners, internal teams, and customers to execute high-quality installations independently

  • Continuously refine documentation based on field feedback, common failure modes, and emerging hardware configurations

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with Product, Engineering, Sales, and Customer Success to align on deployment standards and hardware requirements

  • Provide feedback from the field to improve product reliability, installation processes, and customer experience

How Success Is Measured:

  • Time from installation to reliable data streaming
  • Trial-to-close conversion rate
  • Reduction in post-install support issues
  • Adoption of deployment playbooks by internal teams and partners
  • Reduction in on-site installation requirements over time

Qualifications:

  • Controls engineering experience — you understand electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, how common industrial sensors or actuators operate, and the relationship between PLC programs, M-Codes, macros, ladder logic, and I/O
  • 2–5+ years of experience in solutions engineering, field engineering, IoT hardware deployment or industrial environments
  • Hands-on experience with industrial sensors, IoT devices and familiarity with navigating internet connectivity in industrial contexts including interfacing with IT teams to resolve connectivity issues.
  • Ability to create clear, usable technical documentation — you don't just do the work, you write it down so others can follow it
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to engage both technical and business audiences
  • Comfortable working on manufacturing floors and collaborating with operators, maintenance teams, and IT/OT stakeholders
  • Comfortable working in fast-paced, ambiguous environments

Bonus Qualifications (Nice-to-have):

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Industrial, Automation) or equivalent hands-on experience
  • Experience supporting pre-sales pilots, enterprise sales cycles, or customer onboarding
  • Exposure to SCADA, MES, OEE, or machine monitoring systems
  • Exposure to edge to cloud architecture and purpose built applications that contextualize industrial data
  • Exposure to common industrial machine safety protocols to navigate customer environments
