Job Description
Purpose of the Role
The Collections Specialist, as a senior employee, possesses all the skills of a Finance Officer. In addition, the Collections Specialist is responsible for and takes a leading role in accounts receivable management and the collection of outstanding invoices in order to ensure a healthy cash flow.
Position within the Organization
The Collections Specialist reports to the AR Manager.
Key Result Areas
Financial Reporting
• Establishing and safeguarding a clear collections process and communicating this to all stakeholders
• Reviewing the accounts receivable ledger and ensuring accurate reporting
Accounts Receivable Management
• Contributing to the reduction of credit risk
• Managing customer accounts and monitoring creditworthiness
• Acting as a sparring partner for management, sales, and professional services with regard to the substantive follow-up of disputes
• Mediating with customers and stakeholders on payment-related issues and credit notes
• Making payment arrangements with customers on a global level
• External communication with and follow-up of third parties in the context of special collections
Financial Reconciliation
• Thorough review and correction of unallocated payments and unclear transactions
Account Reconciliation
• Periodic review of customer accounts with long-outstanding balances to initiate appropriate actions
• Reconciling customer accounts and resolving discrepancies and disputes
Legal Collaboration
• Cooperating with internal legal advisors and external collection agencies to collect overdue accounts and initiate legal action when necessary
Job Requirements
• Completed higher professional education (Bachelor level) in a financial field
• At least 5 years of relevant work experience in a similar role
• Strong administrative, organizational, system-related, and business economic skills
• Extensive knowledge of and experience with modern financial and ERP software, analysis and reporting tools, and advanced proficiency in MS Word and MS Excel
• Analytical, accurate, independent, results-driven, decisive, and assertive
• Excellent communication skills in both Dutch and English, spoken and written
